Day hospitals are a ‘very efficient’ way to help fix the elective surgery waitlist.
The Day Hospital sector is a “very efficient, cost-effective place” to help break down the backlog of overdue patients waiting on elective surgery says Day Hospitals Australia CEO Jane Griffiths.
“For example, in NSW there are 24,000 people waiting just for cataract surgery,” Ms Griffiths told commentator Steve Price.
“So there are all sorts of ramifications for people waiting on these lists experiencing extreme pain and disability for their usual daily activities.
“These larger states really do need to start using every opportunity in the private sector so that does include the day hospital sector.”
